DOG TRAINING, ONE DOG AT A TIME

Series

Follow each dog’s story from the beginning.

These series show the first days, the everyday training, the breakthroughs and what we do when we need to change the plan.

Meet each of these awesome dogs below – every one is different!

You can watch a preview of their series, then open the full playlist on YouTube to follow the episodes in order.

Growing up together

These series start with puppy life: sleep, biting, house training, new places and learning how to share a home.

Zak walking Inertia on a wooded path

Inertia

Grow with my own Border Collie, from eight weeks old through adolescence, adult skills and reactivity. This is an EXTREMELY comprehensive series, with almost 100 episodes so you can see how Inertia’s training develops over time!

Kona looking toward the camera

Kona

I had three weeks together with Kona the Goldendoodle puppy. Kona was an awesome example for all of you dealing with all of the typical everyday work that comes with raising a new puppy: biting, potty training, sleep, leash and basic training, and all the unexpected challenges, too!

Zak with Veronica in her purple harness

Veronica

Veronica is our second personal dog, adopted by my wife, Bree. You can watch how she grows up on the road with Bree, Inertia and me, and how we help her learn familiar skills – even in unfamiliar places.

Moira the German Shepherd against a blue sky

Moira

I had two weeks together with Moira, the young German Shepherd. Moira had a history of attacking birds, and plenty of challenges like jumping, pulling and reacting to other dogs.

George the pit bull looking at the camera outdoors

George

George is a super strong, exuberant shelter dog with TONS of potential, but a lot of work to get him ready for a home! He had a *serious* challenge with letting go, most of the typical high-energy shelter dog struggles like jumping, barking and pulling on leash… but watching this diamond in the rough shine is such an adventure and a privilege to be a part of!

Chop sitting beside Zak

Chop

Chop is a giant adult rescue dog who grew up in a remote village in Alaska. This guy is incredible, and teaching him definitely had its challenges! You’ll see how we help him through some big changes and a few hard setbacks, how we integrate him safely with our two dogs, and how we build a relationship with him from the very beginning.

Zak sitting with Wallace, a Malinois mix with large upright ears, beneath autumn trees.

Wallace

Do you have a young or adolescent dog? You NEED to see Wallace’s series! He did a fantastic job demonstrating how to teach attention and everyday training with an adolescent Malinois mix who has energy to spare. You’ll see a ton of great lessons on recall, socialization, getting comfortable in public spaces, and analyzing play and body language with other dogs!

COPS + DOGS

We’re investigating how dogs became tools of policing, who gets harmed, and what happens to the dogs themselves.

If these series have helped you and your dog, you can help make this project possible. Your support helps fund the research, filming and editing, while keeping the investigation free to read, watch and share.
