Share this story to help us expose the epidemic of police shooting our dogs. Let’s wake America up 👏
Chloe, a three-year-old therapy dog who had accidentally gotten loose, had already been tased by officers and was caught by the neck with a dog “catch pole” when Officer Robert Price shot her five times.
Overwhelmingly, cops who shoot dogs face zero accountability. But in this rare case, we have the execution on tape, and the officer was actually charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.
It should be a slam dunk.
Except… a jury acquitted him.
If you’re wondering how this could happen, you must know that the law is built entirely to protect police.
The deck is legally stacked to justify state violence before the trial even begins.
The city ultimately paid Chloe’s family a $262,500 settlement, but the officer still went unpunished.
Outrage about Chloe’s case helped birth the Colorado Dog Protection Act, which is a mandate for non-lethal canine training for police that became a model for the rest of the country.
But what did all that legislative red tape actually solve?
Police are still killing up to 250 dogs every single day in this country. And Chloe was executed almost 16 years ago.
Next, I’ll introduce you to Herkimer, who was shot in the exact same state, long after the Dog Protection Act took effect.
I’ll let you be the judge if reform or abolition is the answer.
