The Buffalo Police Department has a severe, documented dog killing problem. A WGRZ investigation found that Buffalo officers shot 92 dogs from January 2011 – September 2014. One unidentified officer alone shot 26 dogs.

Nothing is going to change until we divest from these armed, taxpayer funded gangs and replace them with unarmed community responders who actually know how to de-escalate.

We need to hold them accountable. Demand that Officer William Miller be fired and that Buffalo legally mandate nonlethal deescalation in all of its encounters with people and dogs.

Here’s a sample comment for Mayor Ryan and the Common Council:

Your officers cannot keep treating our family pets as target practice. We demand you reopen the investigation of William Miller, legally mandate non-lethal deescalation for all animal encounters, and hold this department accountable. This city needs community responders who know how to de-escalate, not armed officers who panic and shoot.
